A change of perspective

While it started as a simple hobby, writing not only became a deep passion of mine but also a game changer.

You see it changed the way I look at my life and the way I look at the world. Like many do, I viewed life solely from my perspective. I don’t mean I didn’t consider others or that I lacked empathy; I mean that I only looked at my life or more specifically my problems like I was part of the problem rather than a potential solution.

Now you see I like logic; it’s clean, it’s efficient and many people can easily understand it if it’s explained to them. This though can’t be applied all the time when we have a problem as there are things that come into play such as emotions (the bane of all logic since Greek philosophers realized what logic is).

So how do you tackle the emotion?

Well, that’s easy and difficult at the same time…

First off: You wait.

You don’t wait to make a decision. You wait till you have calmed down. This way your heart isn’t beating through your chest. The lower your pulse, the higher the chance of logical thought.

Second: You assume you are not part of the problem.

I don’t mean get high and mighty while believing you are never the problem. But rather try to imagine looking at the problem from a top-down approach rather than just your perspective. Expanding your perspective will expand your chances of finding a solution.

Third: Understand that a logical solution is not always what we want.

The best solution to a problem will not always result in us getting what we want. This is a fact. It sucks, I know but sometimes we do what we must as long as it is reasonable and achievable.

This is just something I wanted to point out and talk about because after this shift in the way I think, I notice how many people try to resolve their problems in the worst possible ways or worse ignore them in the hope that these will go away.  I want to make it clear, I don’t pretend to be some sort of self-help type. I just thought I might put this out there so that if anyone saw it and found it helpful it would be of some benefit. In the meantime whoever or wherever is reading this I hope you have a great day.
